Stuffed Cabbage Casserole Recipe in One Pot
I absolutely LOVE this casserole! Ever since I made this Easy Stuffed Cabbage Casserole this has been a regular type of meal at my house. I also have a Cabbage Roll Soup that I enjoy as well.
So naturally, now that I am eating low carb, I decided to create an Unstuffed Cabbage Casserole that is low carb and Keto friendly. I just make rice on the side for my daughter.
Is Cabbage Casserole Healthy
Yes! This hearty casserole is full of healthy veggies and lean protein. I think cabbage has been a super food before super foods were even a thing! You could also use ground turkey or chicken if you are avoiding beef.
I added an orange bell pepper to this recipe for flavor and color. If you are following a strict low carb diet feel free to omit the orange pepper. That will save you about 9 total carbs or 6 net carbs overall.
Is Cabbage Good For A Low Carb Diet
Yes! One cup of raw cabbage contains approximately 22 calories, 5 carbs and 2 grams of fiber. 3 net carbs.
That means that cabbage is most definitely Keto friendly and a great choice to fill up those vegetable carbs.

Thanks looks yummy!
😀
It says to add garlic and sauce, what is the sauce ?
Sorry about that, stupid autocorrect. It should read saute not sauce 🙂 I’m updating the recipe now. Thanks!
What temperature do u set the oven on
No oven. This is a stovetop recipe 🙂
This is yummy! I ate it all by myself in just a few days… it’s terrific. I used grain fed beef, butter to saute the onion and bell pepper, and topped it with greek yogurt. thank you for sharing!! awesome for Keto!
I can totally eat an entire batch myself too 😀
Fantastique
Where does the sugar count come from?
Some veggies have natural occurring sugars, so the peppers and tomatoes.
This was great! I didn’t use the pepper and added a can of crushed tomatoes the last 5 minutes-it was a great low carb replacement of the Pennsylvania Dutch version!
Awesome!!!
Is there 34 grams of fat in the entire recipe? Or is there 6 servings and the entire recipe and you listed the nutrition for 1 serving? Thank you!
I ran the ingredients through different nutrition calculator and this is the results:
Total Fat 24.1g 31%
Saturated Fat 10.6g 53%
Cholesterol 107mg 36%
Sodium 439mg 19%
Total Carbohydrate 8.8g 3%
Dietary Fiber 2.3g 8%
Total Sugars 4.2g
Protein 33.6g
I find that the nutrition calculators vary quite a bit. Frustrating but true.
So you dont drain the grease from the hamburger?
If the hamburger you are using produces a lot of grease then you can go ahead and drain it. I find the good quality hamburgers barely have any oil so it typically isn’t necessary. Thanks!
Would this freeze well?
I have not tried freezing this but I imagine that it should be fine.
Do you need to pre-cook the cabbage a little? Wouldn’t it be hard?
Mine seems to cook just fine, of course, I do like a bit of bite to my cabbage. You can precook it if you prefer 🙂
Can you freeze this dish and then reheat?
I imagine this should freeze and reheat well.
This is delicious!! Portion control went by the wayside!! I had to have 2 helpings!!
Yeah, I hear ya 😀
Can you replace the meat with tofu?
I suppose you could. I don’t have much experience with tofu so you would need to use your best judgement.
This was great. I did add some tomato sauce to make it a bit “wet”…not sure the right term. But like I said, it was great!
Sounds good, I like extra saucy too 🙂
Could you put this in a crockpot? If so, what time, etc… would you suggest?
Sorry, I haven’t done a crockpot version so I can’t say for sure. But, I’ll definitely put that recipe on my to-do list. I do have a slow cooker cabbage roll soup: https://wonkywonderful.com/slow-cooker-cabbage-roll-soup/
It hasn’t been updated? Because I was also super confused but this does look amazing!
???I’m confused, update what? And thanks 🙂
This has been my favorite dish for a while! thank you for sharing it!
You are very welcome 🙂
Did you wind up doing it in the crock pot? How did it turn out? How long?
Says to sauce, not to sauté. Probably the confusing part.
Stupid autocorrect! I’ll go fix it…Thanks!
