Simple Recipe + Few Dishes + Guaranteed Crowd Pleasing Meal = Winner!

I have a love affair with sandwiches.  For Real.  People used to tell me that I should open up my own sandwich shop.

But I’m more interested in eating sandwiches than making them for the masses.  If I did have a sandwich shop these Hot Italian Sandwiches would definitely be on the menu!

Hot Italian Subs – Pro Tips:

  • Pre-assemble these sandwiches and then they ready to go into the oven when you need them.
  • Don’t have giardiniera mix? An olive mixture tastes great too!
  • Leave sandwiches uncovered during baking for slightly crisp edges. Or, cover with foil to have soft-baked style sandwiches.
  • Assembling these sandwiches is a great way to put the kids to work!

I am always texting my little brother to come get food.  If I ate everything I made for my site I would have to spend 6 hours a day at the gym!

After my first bite of this sandwich I knew I needed them out of my house.  I could have eaten the entire batch!

This was my brother’s response after tasting the sandwiches…

  1. I want to make them for an event but I don’t have access to an oven. I was thinking of wrapping each Sammie up in tin foil and layering them in an electric roaster, do you see any drawbacks to this?

    1. I haven’t tried this method. I imagine it would do a good job keeping the sandwiches warm. My main concern would be that they may get dry if left too long.

  2. These look and sound amazing!! Although, I am not much of a ham person…I was wondering if you’ve tried it replacing the Ham with Turkey?? Or is there another deli type meat you would recommend to use instead?

    1. Hi Staci! Turkey should work just fine. Enjoy!

  3. Hey Nicole, just ran into this recipe the other day and printed it out.

WOW. Those were delicious. Are they supposed to “serve 6”?

Partner and I only got 2 servings out of them, oddly……….. :))

    Appreciate the great tasty recipe!!!!!!

    1. Haha! I always feel weird choosing the servings amount. It totally depends how hungry you are!

  4. Wondering if you cover the pan with foil when you bake them or just leave it open.
    Making them tonight!
    Sound amazing!

    1. I think I replied to your question…I hope I did. Yes, you can cover with foil or leave uncovered if you prefer toasty bread.

    1. Either way. Uncovered the sandwiches get slightly crisp edges. Or cover with foil for soft warm sammies 🙂

I found this recipe through Pinterest, and am so glad I did! The whole family loved it (and that’s saying a lot with 3 picky eaters)! I love easy and delicious recipes!

I created a spreadsheet a few years ago to help me with meal planning, and have been updating it with every new recipe we try and like. It now contains around 90 meals, each categorized by main ingredient (Beef, Chicken, pasta, etc) and meal type (Mexican, Italian, American, etc), with a link to the recipe – yours included! It has saved me so much time with meal planning and making out my grocery list!

After talking with some friends, I thought this spreadsheet might be something worth sharing, so I have made it available from my blog to download for free! Now that my readers have your recipe, I’m sure they will be enjoying it as much as we do!
