What Is a Christmas Ornament Cocktail / Mocktail?

It’s a drink served inside a clear, food-safe plastic ornament. The filled ornament is placed inside (or over) a cocktail glass, where guests pop open the top and pour the drink themselves. A fun, interactive touch that creates a moment everybody remembers.

Tips for Perfect Ornament Cocktails

  • Chill everything first so the drink stays cold once poured.
  • Test ornaments ahead of time to ensure they don’t leak and are safe.
  • Label ornaments if you’re serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions.
  • Add edible glitter or gold flakes for a magical holiday shimmer.

Are plastic ornaments safe to drink from?

Yes, as long as they are labeled food-safe. Look for BPA-free ornaments specifically meant for serving drinks. Do not use decorative ornaments intended solely for crafting.

Can I make these ahead of time?

You can fill the ornaments up to 24 hours in advance. Keep them sealed and refrigerated. Add sparkling water or ginger ale after pouring so the drink stays fizzy.

How do I prevent ornaments from leaking?

Make sure the tops snap tightly into place. If you’re worried, place a tiny piece of plastic wrap under the cap before closing.

Do guests drink straight from the ornament?

You can, but most people pour the drink into a glass. It’s cleaner, colder, and easier to sip.

Can I add ice inside the ornament?

Not recommended—it melts fast and can water down the drink before serving. Keep all ingredients chilled instead. Add ice to the serving glasses.
