This really is one of the favorites at my house. You can adjust the ingredients to fit your preferences and make it as quick and easy as you like.

I microwave a couple russet potatoes and make a quick mashed potato because I can’t do instant potatoes. Frozen mashed potatoes are also doable. I hate packet brown gravy so I just melt some butter over the top as an alternative. Popcorn chicken is great but I also will buy a rotisserie chicken and use that for a slightly healthier version.

Ingredient Options:

  • Use frozen popcorn chicken or tenders. Rotisserie chicken works great too.
  • Use dry packet gravy, jarred gravy or melted butter.
  • Use instant potatoes, frozen potatoes or make a quick homemade mashed potato.
  • Use shredded cheddar or my favorite, cheddar jack cheese.

Recipe Notes & FAQs

  • I recommend using an air fryer to make the chicken crispy.
  • Leftovers will store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or in the air fryer.
  • Can I use grilled chicken instead of breaded? Absolutely! It won’t have the same famous flavor that you get with breaded popcorn chicken though.
  • This recipe uses a quick gravy package with water, but you can make a gravy or buy a jarred version.
  • Short on time? Top the bowls with shredded rotisserie chicken instead of popcorn chicken.

What To Serve with KFC Famous Bowls

  • This is a one-dish meal, but if you would like to include a side dish I recommend coleslaw, baked beans, buttermilk biscuits, and grilled or baked vegetables.

Why This Recipe Works

  • Easy to assemble. Great for a busy weeknight to feed the entire family.
  • Copycat favorite recipe. Who doesn’t love the Famous Bowl from KFC? It tastes even better making this version at home.
  • Customizable. It’s easy to swap the popcorn chicken for rotisserie or grilled chicken. You can easily customize each bowl to individual likes and dislikes.
