FAQs About Stuffed Cabbage Casserole
Yes! You can use cauliflower rice or cooked quinoa for a grain-free or higher-protein version. Check out this: Low Carb Cabbage Roll Casserole Recipe
Green cabbage is traditional, but savoy cabbage works too — it’s slightly sweeter and more tender.
Make sure to drain the cabbage and tomatoes well before layering. Excess liquid can make the casserole soupy.

Second time making it! We used grass fed ground beef and since I had some leftover beef broth from another recipe we used half broth half water. Added an orange bell pepper, too! We topped it with sharp white cheddar cheese. Thanks for this great recipe!
Can you make this ahead to save time??? And put it in the oven to warm it up??
Let me know, sure would appreciate it.
I would make everything ahead of time except the rice. The casserole should reheat nicely but the rice might soak up all the moisture. You can always prep the rice when reheating the casserole then add it before serving. Enjoy 🙂
Thank you great idea. I thought of that but put it all together with the cheese on top and put it in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes. But I did put a smaller portion in the oven. This is a large casserole.
Was very good. Thank you so much for the recipe.
5 stars for me. Thanks again for replying to me as well ????

I used regular white rice and cooked it until almost done before adding the cabbage. I used 3/4 bag of shredded coleslaw mix and added a can of tomato sauce and about 1/3 cup cider vinegar to mimic the cabbage roll taste. . Very healthy and hearty dish.
What if I don’t have a dutch oven??
You can use a large pot with a lid. It will work fine. Enjoy 🙂
This was really wonderful! Made it using ground beef, but everything else was pretty much the same as recipe, and the hubby LOVED it! Had 3 helpings last night! And SO EASY!
Thank you!
You could also substitute cous cous or quinoa for the rice, and I think elbow macaroni noodles sound like a fun addition to replace the rice once in a while. The apple cider vinegar sounds like a good addition too. Celery, cilantro, carrots, corn, black beans, or even red kidney beans, think I’ll try this tonight. Thanks for the recipe!
P.S.
I’ll be browning some sausage to add to the hamburger too, sounds like just the right amount of spicy flavor.
Any suggestions to replace the tomatoes?
You can just leave them off or substitute with some chopped red bell pepper.
Put some Rotel in mine for a little bite plus the diced tomatoes. Very good
This was very good I added onion soup mix just a little for flavor yum
I loved this, and so did my family! Quick & easy, only changes I made were to use broth instead of water & real garlic instead of powder. As someone suggested, I also added a shredded carrot. Definitely a keeper in my house!
Question! Probably a silly one. Do you drain the tomatoes?
Nope. Just dump the tomatoes and juice in there 🙂
Was just ok, sorry but taste buds are didn’t like.
I used veggie broth instead of water and veggie crumbles instead of beef, it was yummu
Thank you for the suggestion of the onion soup mix, gave it more flavor!
Good and easy recipe! Good flavor may try to add rotel next time. Might be good with homemade cornbread.
Yum! Sounds great 🙂
Want to make this but since it is for six can this recipe be freezable
I think this would freeze okay 🙂
Came on here to tell you that this has become one of my regular “go to” recipes, and realized I’d commented already back in 2017 when I first found it! Thanks so much, we love it! 🙂
Awesome! I’m so glad you love it 😀
☺️
Would minute instant work?
Yes, just obviously add right at the end 🙂
