Building Your Christmas Charcuterie Board
The Foundation: Meats and Cheeses
Start with a variety of cured meats and cheeses to create depth and interest. For meats, consider prosciutto, salami, pepperoni, and capicola. Fold, roll, or create rosettes with the slices for visual appeal.
Choose 3-5 cheeses with different textures and flavors: a soft brie or camembert, a sharp aged cheddar, a creamy goat cheese, a nutty manchego, and perhaps a bold blue cheese. Cut some into cubes, leave others in wedges, and consider a spreadable option for variety.

Extra Additions
Seasonal Fruits: Fresh cranberries, pomegranate arils, red and green grapes, figs, and apple slices (toss with lemon juice to prevent browning) add color and freshness.
Nuts: Candied pecans, roasted almonds, pistachios, and walnuts provide crunch and fill gaps beautifully.
Crackers and Bread: Include multiple options—water crackers, rosemary crackers, crostini, and breadsticks. Arrange them in fans or stacks.
Sweet Elements: Honey (served in a small bowl with a dipper), fig jam, cranberry chutney, or pepper jelly complement both meats and cheeses perfectly.
Festive Touches: Fresh rosemary sprigs, fresh cranberries scattered throughout, and mini candy canes tucked into corners create that holiday atmosphere.

Tips For Preparing A Charcuterie Board
Assemble your board 2-3 hours before serving and cover it loosely with plastic wrap, refrigerating until 30 minutes before guests arrive. This allows cheeses to come to room temperature for optimal flavor. If you need more advance prep, arrange non-perishable items (crackers, nuts, dried fruits) the night before and add fresh items and perishables the day of.
For 4-6 people, use a 12-15 inch board. For 8-10 people, opt for 16-20 inches. For larger parties, consider creating multiple smaller boards placed around the room rather than one massive board.
Don’t let it sit at room temperature for more than 2 hours (1 hour if the room is warm). For longer parties, start with a smaller board and replenish from the refrigerator, or swap out the entire board halfway through. Keep extra ingredients prepped in the kitchen.
Shop at discount stores like Costco or Trader Joe’s for cheeses and nuts, use seasonal produce when possible, make your own candied nuts, choose fewer premium meats and supplement with less expensive options, and use items you already have (crackers from your pantry, olives from the fridge).

- 6 oz Sliced prosciutto
- 8 oz Brie cheese round
- 7 oz Brie cheese wedge
- 8 ounce block Pepperjack cheese cut into 1-inch cubes
- Thin sliced cheese cut into smaller squares
- 12 oz Assorted round crackers
- 8 oz Rectangular or square crackers
- 2 cups trail mix
- 10 oz jar stuffed manzanilla olives
- 6 oz can pitted medium black olives
- 1 apple cored and sliced
- Mixed berries fresh raspberries, blackberries, blueberries
- Red black, and green grapes
- 1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce for filling the brie cheese round
- 1 cup honey for drizzling over cheese
- Fresh sage and rosemary for decorating the wreath
Instructions
- Prepare the cheese. Cut the pepperjack block into 1-inch cubes. Cut the cheese slices into smaller squares and use the cookie cutter to make star shapes if desired. Use the large star cookie cutter to make a star shape in the brie cheese. Remove the center of the star and then fill with cranberry sauce, jam, or honey.
- Prepare the salami roses. Layer the salami into a line and fan it out. Roll it and then use a toothpick to keep it together. Make the roses big or small by rolling different amounts of slices. Repeat with the remaining salami.
- Once the cheese and salami are prepared, make an outline of the wreath using fresh herbs on the outer circle. Then make a smaller circle in the center of the board. You can continue to adjust as you go along.
- Place the cranberry brie round on the board.
- Add the salami roses, placing them on opposite ends.
- Add the crackers, nuts, and olives. Put them in different areas of the board.
- Add the cheese cubes and slices.
- Separate the prosciutto and roll the pieces together or fan it out. Put two bunches on opposite sides of the board.
- Fill the open gaps with fruit and then adjust the rest of the board by adding more ingredients if needed. Decorate with the star cheese cut outs.
- Add more herbs for the wreath to make it look fuller and adjust the circle.
- Serve with some extra cranberry sauce and honey on the side.
