Two Favorite Summer Desserts Combined…

Strawberry Shortcake + Ice Cream = The Ultimate Summer Treat!Honestly, I’m not even a huge fan of Strawberry Shortcake.  But, I could not put my spoon down!  This ice cream is absolutely addictive!

The process is simple enough.
To make the vanilla ice cream: Mix 2 cups Half & Half, 1/4 cup Sugar and 2 teaspoons Vanilla.  Click Here for instructions on the three methods to make homemade ice cream.
To transform the Vanilla Ice Cream into Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream you will need strawberries and a package of Twinkies.  I used Twinkies because it gives the ice cream the necessary cake element, but also a hint of cream.

Chop up one cup of strawberries.  Then freeze until the strawberries are firm, but not rock hard.  Freeze the Twinkies whole, then cut frozen Twinkies into cubes.

When you have finished the vanilla ice cream, stir in the frozen strawberries.
Finally, gently fold in the Twinkie cubes so that the cream filling stays intact.
This recipe makes a little over one pint of ice cream.
And there you have it … What’s better than ice cream, fruit and cake!?!Enjoy!
