HOMEMADE GYROS
These beef gyros are so simple to put together. Cook up the beef roast in your crockpot, make the tzatziki sauce then fill a soft pita bread with the delicious combination and anything else you prefer in your gyros.
WHAT IS A GYRO?
Traditional gyro meat is slow roasted on a spit then carved off and folded into pita bread. Typically the pita bread will also be filled with tzatziki sauce, onions, lettuce, tomato, etc.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
- Store leftover gyro meat in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

CROCKPOT BEEF GYRO MEAT
This CROCKPOT BEEF GYRO MEAT is so easy to make. Just slow cook the beef roast then pile it onto pita bread slathered with tzatziki sauce for the ultimate homemade gyros.
Ingredients
- GYRO MEAT:
- 4 pound beef chuck roast
- 1 onion, sliced
- 6 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 lemon, juiced
- ¼ cup water
- TZATZIKI SAUCE:
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- ½ cup grated cucumber
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill
Instructions
- Place beef roast in your slow cooker. Place the onions, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, lemon juice and water.
- Cook on LOW for 8 hours or HIGH 4-6 hours until tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- Prepare tzatziki sauce - In a small mixing bowl combine the yogurt, cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, salt and dill.
- To make the gyros spread the tzatziki sauce on pita bread, fill pita with meat and your preferred add-ons: red onion, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, etc.
Notes
Make the tzatziki sauce ahead when you put the roast in, the longer it sits the better.
