These Homemade Baked Donuts are a simple vanilla cake, thick glaze and nonpareils sprinkles. Red, White and Blue Doughnuts make the perfect 4th of July dessert recipe!
I am all about easy treats that are fun and festive. These Homemade Baked Donuts are everything. Quick, easy, delicious and super cute. Start your Fourth of July festivities off right with this happy breakfast!
You do need a donut pan to make these. Trust me, once you get a donut pan you will use it regularly. I have this Wilton Nonstick Donut Pan.
These vanilla donuts are perfect for just about any topping. They make a great base. If you aren’t feeling the sprinkles, top donuts with your favorite candy or just a simple glaze.
I use my favorite Rodelle Vanilla Extract. It is important to use quality ingredients, especially when the recipe is simple like these donuts.
I prefer nonpareils {or sprinkle balls as I call them}. Regular rainbow sprinkles are great. But a donut covered in little round poka dots is so much more cheerful, in my opinion. And yes, I may be putting way too much thought into sprinkles and donuts. We all need our distractions.

Homemade Baked Donuts with Vanilla and Sprinkles
Ingredients
Donuts
- 1 Cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 2 Tablespoons Butter - room temp
- 1 Large Egg
- 1/4 Cup Plain Greek Yogurt
- 2 teaspoons Rodelle Vanilla Extract
- 3 Tablespoons Whole Milk
Glaze
- 1 Cut Powdered Sugar
- 4 Tablespoons Heavy Cream
- Sprinkles or Nonpareils
Instructions
Donuts
- Preheat oven to 325°F
- Mix flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.
- Using hand mixer; combine butter and sugar.
- Add egg, Greek yogurt, milk and vanilla. Mix.
- Mix in dry ingredients until batter just comes together.
- Spray donut pan with nonstick.
- Fill donut molds with batter. I transfer batter to a sandwich bag, snip one bottom corner and pipe batter into molds.
- Bake 12-14 minutes.
- Transfer to cooling rack and allow to cool completely before glazing.
Glaze
- Mix powdered sugar and cream until smooth.
- Dip each donut into glaze. Repeat for a thick glaze coating.
- Immediately sprinkle nonpareils over the top of glaze. This will be messy so I suggest holding each donut over the kitchen sink while coating with sprinkles.
