Mushroom Cream Sauce Recipe with Tortellini

A creamy, buttery sauce that is full of earthy mushrooms, roasted garlic and thyme.  This cream sauce recipe is my go to whenever I need an indulgent and comforting meal!  Perfect for the chilly winter months.

Honestly, I am not the type that craves a bucket full of pasta on a daily basis.  But, when I do get the craving I go for it!

Cream, butter, mushrooms, roasted garlic, thyme and Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini.  All of my favorite things in one bowl!

I stopped by my local Safeway to pick up the necessary ingredients for my favorite pasta dish.  Just a few things for my cream sauce recipe and the tortellini.

This cream sauce recipe is really quick and simple.  Prep the sauce and let it do it’s magic.  Boil the Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini.  Toss them together and dive right in.

Mushroom Cream Sauce with Tortellini

Ingredients
  • 2 Tb Olive Oil
  • 16 oz Crimini Mushrooms sliced
  • Pinch of Salt/Pepper
  • 10 Cloves Roasted Garlic chopped
  • 1/2 Stick Butter 4 Tb
  • Leaves from 2 Sprigs of Thyme
  • 1/4 Cup Fresh Grated Parmesan + more for topping
  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 Family Size Bag of Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini
Instructions
  1. In a large pan over medium heat; sauté mushrooms in olive oil with salt and pepper until tender. (about 8 minutes)
  2. Remove mushrooms with a slotted spoon, transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Start bringing the water to a boil for the pasta. Cook tortellini according to package directions.
  4. Add the butter to the mushroom cooking liquid in the sauté pan. Reduce heat to medium/low.
  5. Whisk butter until melted.
  6. Add the roasted garlic {I'm garlic obsessed, so I use 20 cloves!}. Continue cooking while whisking for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Whisk in the grated parmesan, thyme leaves and heavy cream. Cook until the sauce begins to thicken and bubble. (about 5 minutes)
  8. Reduce heat to low, add mushrooms and heat for 5 minutes.
  9. Toss sauce with cooked tortellini and top with grated parmesan. Salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Serve immediately while hot.

    I made this last week when my wife went out for the evening.
    After I put my 10month old to bed, I went to town trying this recipe out. Was amazing and was really great the next day as well.
    So tonight I’m making this for my wife..
    Great recipe and I hope you don’t mind, but I’m totally going to take credit for the recipe with my wife.(Sorry;))
