Dairy Free Pineapple Matcha Drinks
I recently stopped by my local Starbucks planning to get my usual iced latte. Not really being in the mood for coffee I decided to try the new Spring drink, the Iced Pineapple Matcha Drink. This was very unusual for me because while I like matcha green tea I’m not really a fanatic about it.
Wow! Am I glad I tried the new matcha drink. It is refreshing, lightly sweet, slightly earthy and energizing. The addition of pineapple to matcha green tea is perfection. And the coconut milk almost makes this taste like a Pina Colada Matcha.
This homemade Pineapple Matcha Latte is my version of the Starbucks drink. Starbucks uses a pineapple ginger syrup. This DIY recipe uses pineapple juice and fresh grated ginger root. You get the same flavors of the Starbucks version and it is easy to adjust everything to fit your tastes.

Tips For Making Iced Matcha Lattes At Home
Milk: This recipe calls for coconut milk for a dairy free version. Any milk or cream will work. I prefer heavy cream.
Sweetener: Any sweetener can be used, or none at all. I really like to use Monkfruit sweetener in mine.
Matcha: There are tons of matcha powders out there to choose from. I recommend using organic, culinary grade, Japanese matcha powder. Also, watch out for pre-sweetened powders as some come with sugar included.
Blending: Use a blender, hand blender or shake it up in a sealed mason jar.

May I suggest using Silk unsweetened coconut almond blend milk and liquid Stevia to save calories? 1 cup of silk is 35 calories and the Stevia is 0. The pineapple juice would be the highest calories count. I would also spend the money and buy the ceremonial matcha.

Can I use fresh ginger with this instead of the one that comes in the glass?

So something I learned recently at my Starbucks is their blended drink option. This crushes the ice cubes into a slushie consistency. I love to do this with their pineapple match drink….
Of course, doing this at home, freeze your pineapple juice and use that or frozen milk substitute to get the coolness factor but not water down the drink.
