Prevent your screen from going to sleep
In a heat safe bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, vanilla, and spices.
In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of water or apple cider to a boil.
Pour liquid over the butter and spices. Stir to combine and dissolve brown sugar.
Add rum, stir.
Pour into two mugs.
Top with whipped cream and, optionally, a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.
