This Blood Orange Cake Recipe is a quick and easy dessert. A delicate cake made with fresh blood orange and topped with blood orange glaze. Enjoy a slice with your afternoon tea!
I just love the vibrant color of blood oranges. They tend to have a slightly different flavor that traditional oranges. A mild, fruitier flavor.
My daughter loves anything blood orange. Mostly because she is a creepy kid that like the idea of drinking the blood of an orange. We call them vampire oranges! She’s a character.
But really it is just fun to sound like a fancy foodie and tell people that you made a Blood Orange Cake. Even though it is super simple. For whatever reason using blood oranges in a recipe makes it seem so much more sophisticated.
I blame Bon Appétit and Saveur Magazine.
Usually blood orange cake is topped with slices of fresh blood oranges for dramatic effect. While that does make for a gorgeous presentation, I hate having to remove orange slices before eating a piece of cake. Plus it makes it difficult to cut.
But if you are wanting to garnish the cake a bit, add a few slices.
