I wasn’t always that way. Coffee is an obsession that developed after I had my daughter. Coffee is the only reason I survived that first year being a parent!
I used to buy iced coffees at my local drive-thru coffee joint. But at $5 a pop, a daily coffee habit gets really expensive really fast!
So I figured out how to make cold brewed coffee that would be as good {better} than the iced coffee that I had been buying on a daily basis. Now I only buy iced coffees if it is absolutely necessary. I prefer my own home brewed coffee.
Since you are making your own cold brewed coffee, you might as well make your own homemade coffee creamer too! Vanilla Cardamom Coffee Creamer is unique and unbelievably tasty. And, Homemade Coffee Creamer is really easy to make.
Cold Brew Coffee is simple to make too. It just takes some planning.
I used 6 Tb Traditional Roast Gevalia Kaffee and 3½ cups Filtered Water. That makes quite a potent coffee brew. So if you prefer your coffee to be mild, start with 4 Tb.
Combine the coffee and water in a 34 oz mason jar. Seal and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, place a fine mesh strainer over a large measuring cup or bowl. Place a regular coffee filter into the strainer and pour the coffee mixture into the filter. You will need to pour it in 2-3 stages. Transfer the filtered coffee into a clean jar or container.

This Vanilla Cardamom Homemade Coffee Creamer tastes so amazing! I think the Vanilla-Cardamom combo is my new favorite flavor. And it is definitely a flavor of creamer that you will not find at the grocery store!
Vanilla Cardamom Coffee Creamer
Cold Brew Iced Coffee with Vanilla and Cardamom infused Homemade Coffee Creamer.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Whole Milk
- 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 4-5 Whole Cardamom Pods
- 1 Vanilla Bean Pod - scraped*
Instructions
- Mix together the milk, cream and sugar.
- Transfer to a small saucepan.
- Gently puncture the cardamom pods with the tip of a small knife.
- Add the cardamom pods and vanilla bean to the cream mixture and heat over medium/low while gently whisking frequently.
- Heat until steaming and slightly frothy. (15-20 minutes)
- Remove from heat and allow to sit for 10 minutes.
- Remove vanilla bean and cardamom pods. If any of the cardamom seeds came out of the pod, remove those too.
- Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate
Notes
*I use a leftover vanilla bean pod for this or scrape the vanilla beans and save for use in another recipe.

Hi Mandy! I bought my cardamom pods at World Market. But, you could also try a natural foods store or anywhere that has a large spice section.

If I don’t have cardamon pods, can I substitute ground cardamon?

Yes, it may be difficult to get all of the ground cardamom strained out. If you don’t mind that it should be fine. I would start with just a pinch though because it will be much stronger than the pods.
