Peeps Chocolate Cake Bars Recipe - This fun and easy treat is perfect for an Easter Dessert! Delicious bars made with cake mix and topped with buttercream frosting. Decorate with Peeps and Robin's Eggs!

Ingredients

Bars

  • 1 Box Devil's Food Chocolate Cake Mix 15.25oz
  • 1/2 Cup Butter - melted
  • 1 Large Egg - lightly beaten

Frosting

  • 1/2 Cup Butter - softened
  • Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 10 Drops Yellow Food Coloring
  • 1 teaspoon Whole Milk or Cream

Chocolate Dip

  • 1/4 Cup Dark Chocolate Morsels
  • 1 teaspoon Shortening

Toppings

  • 9 Yellow Chick Peeps
  • Robin's Egg Candies
  • Yellow Decorative Sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Mix chocolate bars ingredients into a thick dough consistency.
  • Line an 8x8 inch baking dish with foil and spray with nonstick.
  • Press the dough evenly into the bottom of prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 20 minutes. Allow to cool completely.

Frosting

  • Mix all frosting ingredients until light and fluffy. (about 5 minutes)
  • Spread frosting evenly over bars. Refrigerate at least 1 hour.

Chocolate Dip

  • Melt chocolate & shortening in microwave 30-60 seconds. Stir vigorously until smooth.

Assembly

  • Remove foil from baking dish and transfer to flat surface.
  • Carefully peel foil from bars. Cut into 9 squares.
  • Sprinkle with yellow sugar.
  • Dip bottoms of Peeps into melted chocolate and gently place on top of chocolate cake bars.
  • Dip Robin's Eggs in chocolate and place next to Peep.
  • Refrigerate 5 minutes to set chocolate.
  • Remove from refrigerator and allow bars to come to room temperature before serving.
