Ingredients

  • 4-5 Large Sweet Onions - peeled sliced
  • 4 Tablespoons Oil
  • 4 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour
  • 32 ounces Beef Broth low sodium
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Sprig Fresh rosemary
  • 2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
  • Salt/Pepper - to taste

Instructions

  • Slowly sauté onions in oil over medium/high heat in a large sauté pan. Cook until onions are tender, this takes approximately 25 minutes. If you want caramelized onion gravy cook onions at a lower temp for a longer period of time until dark brown.
  • Reduce heat to medium. Melt butter with onions then slowly sprinkle flour over onions, stirring between each addition. Cook and stir for 2 minutes.
  • Gradually add broth, stir between each addition to prevent clumps. Add Worcestershire sauce, rosemary sprig and garlic powder.
  • Once gravy begins to bubble reduce heat to medium/low and gently simmer until thickened. (5-10 minutes)
  • Remove rosemary, salt/pepper to taste and serve.

Notes

This recipe yields approximately 3 cups of gravy. (depending on how long you cook/reduce the gravy)
