With July Fourth right around the corner I am feeling extra patriotic. This festive decoration is simple and super cheap to make.It was a spontaneous project that just sort of happened. Because this was an impulse craft I didn’t take pictures along the way. But, the steps are so basic that written instructions should be sufficient.I began my Red, White and Blue crafting with the Patriotic PlayDough. So, the first step is to make a batch of playdough.
Use a star cookie cutter to create the playdough shapes.
Insert a plain wooden dowel into each playdough star. Allow the dough to dry for several days or you can speed the process by baking in the oven on the lowest temperature. Once the stars are completely dry they are ready for a coat of paint.
I had some dollar store rocks that I painted red, white and blue then placed inside a mason jar. You could also fill it with candy, ribbon or buttons … whatever you happen to have handy.
Cut a piece of cloth and place under the mason jar lid. Also cut small slits into the cloth so the dowels can be inserted. Fasten lid over the cloth and place the dowels through the slits.
That’s all there is to it. Use this cheerful decoration as a table centerpiece at your Fourth of July BBQ or anywhere around the house. Mine will be adding a patriotic pop to my living room mantel.
I hope you enjoy this project and are inspired to start your own impromptu craft. Still feeling patriotic … check out my Red, White & Blue Yarn Wreath!
