When making extracts with vanilla beans, the beans last indefinitely. Is that the same with syrup or do you need to toss the bean each time you remake the syrup?

In reply to James. I have never tried freezing simple syrup. But a quick google search leads me to believe that it is able to be frozen and stored indefinitely.
